TOMO NO KAI

Tomo no Kai 友の会 (Tnok for short) is a student organization created in 2008 under Ghent University located in Ghent on campus Blandijn as part of the East Asian Languages and Cultues with major Japanese (known for short as Japanology). It is a student organization that provides events for its members to enjoy such as cocktail parties, karaoke, game nights, club evenings and more while incorporating some of the Japanese culture. Tomo no Kai is mostly known for their waffle sale that fills the hallways of Blandijn with a warm and inviting scent of hot freshly baked waffles (vanilla, chocolate and matcha).

We are a group of, usually about 13, various students ranging from BA2 to MA2 from our course, and on occasions outside of the Japanology course, that try and bring forward our interests and passions, combined with others’ interests, into an event. Although most of our events are something we come up with, we gladly learn of what our members are willing to see and do together with us. Everyone is welcome to join Tomo no Kai as a member if you’re a student (UGhent, HoGhent and others) and international student. JOIN HERE

Tomo no Kai is a non-profit student organization, everything earned through our sales is to be able to provide for our future events. This gives us the opportunity to provide drinks and snacks at very low prices, sometimes even for free, and the possibility to fund possible trips.

Are you interested in casual events such as game nights (boardgames, online games etc), karaoke evenings, club evenings at a local cafe in Ghent, movie nights, and so on at fairly low prices with people that may share some interests with you combined with some Japanese culture and language? Then this student organization is just for you!

Find us at Blandijn by following the deep bordeaux red and yellow gold ribbons, if you recognize any of us by face, or join our events and get to know us better!

See you around!
