BOOKS

How to get your books and where to get your books, are always common questions asked among many students. Therefore we created this Q&A page where most common questions are answered. Hope it helps!

Where and how will I be able to get the books I need?

Standaard Boekhandel @ Kouter (Ghent) for majority of the books if you want new books.
Our Second Hand Booksale (usually) @ kitchen on the 5th floor Blandijn. (See events for the time and place and the events on our Facebook Page for more details).

What is the second hand booksale?

This is a yearly event where we pick up the books from the students between BA2-MA2 who are willing to sell their books. They give their books to us, we list them up with the price. Students from BA1-MA2 will then be able to buy them. The money will then of course go back to the person who has sold their book(s).

What about the books we (tnok) cannot get? (As a BA1 student) -> general course books we don’t always have available

You can always find the books at Standaard Boekhandel. Of course do consider that those are not second hand books. You do get a student discount when buying the books (10%).

Books for BA1 students for the common subjects like Historische Kritiek, Inleiding tot de wijsbegeerte etc are available before-during-after the first lessons! These will be presented by other student associations such as KMF and VGK and others.

**Note: When other student associations sell their books we will notify you, usually through our socials and during the announcements on Monday.

**Aditional info: VGK and FILOLOGICA usually sell ‘stucus’ before the exam periods. These are summaries of subjects such as Historische Kritiek (HK) and Wijbegeerte and so on. These are very useful! We especially recommend to take the “Casuslijst” for HK!

How can I sell my books on the book sale event?

You can bring your books to us at the given ‘pick-up’ moment (usually during the first week). As you give your books to us we expect you to leave us your email, name, the price for the book and your bank account number (so we can transfer the money to you once it has been paid). Please leave that on a post-it on the first page of the book so students can check the price themselves when getting a book form the sale.

If the book has not been sold, you’ll be asked to pick up the book up again at the given moment. For those who don’t pick up the books that have not been sold, we will keep the books for ourselves and they will become our property. So please do pick them up if you don’t want to lose those books in such way. It also takes time from us as well as space we don’t have in our closets. So you have been warned. If you cannot come at a given moment, please do notify our Study Praeses!

Are there any other places I can sell my books if I wasn’t able to give them for the book sale?

Yes! There is a Facebookgroup for Letteren en Wijsbegeerte where you can sell your books yourself and discuss details with a buyer yourself.
