Welcome at Ghent University. This page will provide a short explanation with additional helpful links to help guide you through your program. First off follow this link for general information provided by UGhent for either future or current students.
The information here below is a summary to give you the most important things you need in regards of the content of your program in either undergraduate or master. Hope it helps!
UNDERGRADUATE (BACHELOR 1-3) PROGRAM:
Interested in the Japanese language, culture and more? Then perhaps you’d be interested in starting a degree in East Asian Languages and Cultures with a major in Japanese!

MASTER PROGRAM:
All information will be given in more details at the end of your third year as an undergraduate (BA3).

EDUCATIVE MASTER (1/2):
The educative master is a whole different thing existig on its own. However, East Asian Languages and Cultures with major in Japanese also has an educative master.

EXCHANGE PROGRAM:
During your undergraduate and master program you’ll have the opportunity to go on an exchange to Japan/South Korea/Europe.
Do note: Although there is a possibility for a scholarship (trasport and/or monthly), you must also understand that there are chances you won’t get a scholarship and will have to provide the amount of money yourself.
UNDERGRADUATE:
As a BA3 student you have a possibility on going on an exchange program to Japan. More information will be found in this tab here. Information coming from UGhent is found in different locations. UGhent will give detailed information about the exchange to Japan at the start of your second undergraduate year (BA2).
UGhent general information on exchange programs here. The exchange program for the undergraduate is only 1 semester long, falling in the spring-summer season.
Locations to follow an exchange program at are found here. (Note: the list is updated on a yearly basis as new contracts with new universities in Japan may be added to the list).
MASTER:
Just like in the undergraduate degree you’ll have the possibility to go on an exchange. However, in the master program you’ll be allowed to go for a year or just a semester unlike the undergraduate which is just a semester.
